Hi, I stripped, brightened and twice stained (semi transparent) my hardwood pool deck back in april 20. It's now showing serious barren spots. Is that normal? Furthermore: how to go about a new coat/ coats? Cleaning, brightening and staining? Or just cleaning and staining? Thanks. (Living in the caribbean, by the way)

We will reply to your comment shortlyExotic hardwoods can only have one coat of stain and they also need to be cleaned and recoated annually. Sound like you may have over-applied. Prep to remove and then just one coat.https://www.restore-a-deck.com/restore-a-deck-wood-stain-on-exotic-hardwoods-ipe.html

We will reply to your comment shortlyThanks for the feedback. Does this mean i have to strip and stain (once)? Or will cleaning and staining (once) suffice? In both cases: is brightening necessary or advisable?

We will reply to your comment shortlyStrip and brighten this time. Apply one coat. In the future, you can clean and brighten for prep.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI stripped, brightened, rinsed and applied one coat on a damp deck. It turned out very spotty - see photos. Any idea what went wrong and what do you recommend me to do?

We will reply to your comment shortlyYou did not rinse the Brightener completely out of the wood and it reacted with the stain. Here is a good article on why this can happen: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/why-rinse-a-wood-brightener-with-water/Try applying one light coat to one board after the deck dries for a day or two. See if it evens out. If so, apply one light coat to all.
