Here is great video from one of our customers showing how to prep and apply a maintenance coat of stain.

Ok one more (for now). How soon after staining can it get rained on? Lots of rainy days in the forecast so I’m trying to plan this out. Thanks!

I have just stripped my precious stain (with a different product) and I’m trying to choose a new stain. Part of my decision is that I want to avoid having to strip the next time I have to redo the stain. If I use RAD stain, will I have to strip in order to apply a maintenance coat? Or just wash and brighten?

Also, how long after staining with RAD can I put furniture on it. I’ll be doing the same thing as the guy in this video with the grill and also a table and chairs.

    Thanks!

You can use the RAD Cleaner/Brightener when time to recoat in the future. 4-6 hours to dry but 24 for furniture is best.

Thanks for the quick reply! So just to confirm, I would not need to strip when reapplying in the future? Just clean and brighten? Is this different from other water based stains like Benjamin Moore?

Just clean and brighten. RAD is a penetrating stain. BM is a filming stain that dries on top of the wood. Not the same.

Ah, got it. Wish I’d known all this before I used BM! Thanks so much!

I stripped and brightened the deck last week with your product, this is the result. Is it ready for staining? Do I clean since it has been 6 days. Is this how it should look? I have never stained before, this is a purchased home and I am unsure what type of wood or stain was previously on the deck. I appreciate all of your help!

Looks like your brightener was not applied evenly. You should do that again. Rinse well after 15 minutes or so.

2 questions. Can Restore-A-Deck semi transparent stain be applied with a sprayer? Will the stain adhere to my white vinyl siding and railing system?

Yes, it can be sprayed. You cannot get it on vinyl.

Last summer I cleaned, brightened, and stained (natural semi-transparent) a new pine deck with RAD products. I had planned to do a maintenance coat this year with the same stain. Instructions on your cleaner package says that it preps for maintenance coats, that it removes existing weathered stains, and that "it is recommended for surface preparation prior to ... reapplication of wood stains."

Elsewhere, however, your instructions say that existing stain should be removed by stripping before re-staining. Please resolve the conflict. I would prefer to prep using the cleaner, as I already have cleaner in hand.

When recoating with the same stain and color, you can use the cleaner.

Will using the cleaner remove existing RAD stain?? And must I use the cleaner and then brightener, or just the cleaner if I want to apply a maintenance coat?

          Use both for best results.

Does the cleaner and brightenre remove the existing stain??? I just stained last year and don't want to undo everything done last year. Or am I misunderstanding what a maintenance stain is?
            Thanks.

Only use the cleaner and brightener products if you are recoating as it may thin your current stain some but that is the point as you want your new coating to adhere.

While it looked great after I stained it, I have some spots where the stain is thin is missing altogether after the winter. Can I just put some stain in those areas without redoing the entire deck?

It is very hard to spot apply and get it to blend plus you run the risk of it not adhering since the first coat already cured.
