We will reply to your comment shortly· 06/23/2019This stain was a dream to work with wet on wet coats. Results were a little uneven on my older deck that's been stained many times before even after double stripping, but still looks great & I'm very satisfied ! I highly recommend this semi-transparent stain product. The Padco pads work great. I used two pads for a 2-level deck 12x16 + 10 x 10. I used about 3 gallons of stain. I have about 2 gallons of stain leftover. How long is the leftover stain good for & what is the best way to store it?

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have what may seem like a really dumb question, but I got 2 of the 2.5 gallon jugs of stain. what is the best way to mix that before pouring out to start work?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou can mix into a 5-gallon plastic pail if needed.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyOh, I'm very sorry. I wasn't clear. I meant how do I mix up the stain before I pour it out to use. Stir with a stick? Shake it? Thank you.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have a maintenance question. I applied the natural stain (restore a deck) last year to hardwood late summer. I did not expect more than a year because it is hardwood. It is now spring of the following year and much of the stain is faded and some boards on the deck are starting to grey a little. Some parts of railings which are exposed to sun or more elements are more faded. I would like to maintenance with the same color. Do I need to restrict the whole deck and restrain or can I just clean, brighten and add a maintenance coat?

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have 1 gallon left of cleaner, is there anything else that I can clean with as I am attempting tomorrow. Thanks for all your help with all my questions
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe active shelf life of the cleaner is a few hours once mixed. If you have a gallon of mixed cleaner, it will not work very well if used tomorrow.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlySorry for the continued questions. I was going to use a roller to apply stain but have also purchased the brush head from you. Is the brush head the better option?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyRollers do not work that well when applying a penetrating stain. Use a stain pad or the RAD staining brush for best results.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI used cleaner and brighter yesterday was going to stain this morning but wood looks like it has almost "white hair" on some of the boards. I have sanded some of the railings but hoping not to have to sand deck as the wood is 9 months old. What can I do to fix? What did I do wrong?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNew wood when it sits exposed oxidizes. You that have to remove the gray oxidation from the wood. What you seeing is not full removal of the oxidation. You can go over it again with the cleaner. The wood fibers also do not show when stain and will darken in color.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyRained all day and night will that effect the cleaning, brightening process I was planning for tomorrow as wood will be damp in morning
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo, it will not have any effect.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI was going to wash my deck Saturday and stain Sunday. Mon- Wed forecast is for showers, should I wait to stain?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo, the rain Monday will not have any effect. FYI you can prep and stain all on Saturday. If you do it Sunday, mist the deck with water if a hot day: https://www.restore-a-deck.com/Deck-Cleaning-Reviews-and-Tips/restore-a-deck-stain-hot-sun-application.html

We will reply to your comment shortlyI stained part of my fence yesterday. I covered 440 sq feet with 2 coats and I used 2 1/2 gallons. Should I be applying more stain to the fence? Are my coats too light?
Thanks so much for all your great help!-

We will reply to your comment shortlyInstalled a new deck in July, wondering what would be the best sun & water protector for NY. We had a lot of rainy weekends and the weather has now cooled off to mid 50's. Should I try to apply now or wait till next spring?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWondering if there is a certain temp to wash, clean and stain deck. Hoping to have completed before Easter but weather here in Northeast is still mid 40's to 50 degrees
-
We will reply to your comment shortly50 degrees or higher.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI instaled a deck last August 2018, I have bought cleaner and brightner. looking to buy stain for a 16' x 22 ' deck. Will I need to stain with 2 coats or 1? I assume i would need 5 gallons for one coat. Do you recommend 2 coats? An if so would I need to purchase 10 gallons then? Deck also has spindles with the same 16 x 22, has 8 steps to ground as well. THANKS
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyOne coat since the wood is less than 12 months old. As for quantity needed, use the calculator on right-hand side if on a desktop. Or give us a total sq footage that includes all flooring, steps, and railings.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHello, I have new steps (~4 months old), a deck exposed to the sky (grey wood photo/ 12 years old) and the rest of the deck is in a screened in porch. You can see the transition from the exposed and sheltered parts of the deck. I was planning on using a stripper, brightener, and following with a damp deck staining the same day. I do have a power washer handy. Any advice for my plan? Should I skip the stripper and use a cleaner instead? Many thanks.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou have a little bit of old stain so use the Stripper and then the Brightener. Rinse the brightener for 20 minutes when done, making sure all suds are removed.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have just ordered your stain. I plan on using it on my wooden driveway, which is slanted and becomes slippery in the wet months here in the Pacific Northwest. I was considering adding an anti-skid product made for paints and stains, which is ground up walnut shells, 40/60 grit. Do you recommend I use your stain on my driveway? Do you have any concern about adding the anti-skid product (the instructions say to add it to the final coat)?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe RAD stain is a penetrating (not a filming) stain so a grit will or antiskid will not work.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIf I get some on a part of the deck that I later want to paint with a white Acrylic exterior paint. Will the stain affect the color or finish of the white?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIt shouldn't.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI just finished prepping my 12 year old pressure deck for staining. The total surface area including decking, rails, and steps is about 800 square feet. How many gallon of RAD do I need? Also can I apply just one coat? I have just recently heard of this product is it new to the market?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou need two coats. See this: https://www.restore-a-deck.com/Deck-Cleaning-Reviews-and-Tips/restore-a-deck-stain-wet-on-wet-application.html
About 8 gallons. RAD prep products have been around for 20+ years. The stain line is newer.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI applied one coat onto new wood, some areas obviously didn't absorbe enough of the stain..or the user didn't apply enough...(just sayin')...can I apply another coat with a sprayer and be ok? I am assuming the wood is fairly thirsty and soaked it in.
PS...love the product...love it!-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo, you cannot apply a second coat once the first coat has dried/cured. Best to leave as is. You can lightly clean and reapply another coat in the Spring.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI was reading this elsewhere, "While water-based stain can typically last two to three years and is more environmentally friendly (it’s solvent-free), its refinishing process can be more work. Unlike oil-based stain, it’s often necessary to remove the old water-based stain entirely before a fresh coat is applied, which usually requires a combination of sanding, stripping, and scraping." My question is whether this is true with the restore a deck stain? can you just apply stain where needed when the stain fades or do you have to strip the stain in entirely to add a new coat of stain to areas where needed?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe RAD stain is a penetrating stain so no, it does not have to be removed when reapplying.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyMay be dumb question but how do you apply this stain? Oil based stains it appears you do small sections and then wipe the sections off with a rag. Do you wipe the stain off after you apply the stain? Do you apply water based and oil based stains the same way?
-
We will reply to your comment shortly
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe articles says nothing about applying and wiping off. Do you not wipe off this stain after applying? Also, this these articles talk about adding when wet. I am not staining on the same day that strip and brighten. Am I supposed to re-wet the wood in this case with water? The articles seem to be missing that information.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyNo need to back wipe when using the RAD wood stain. No need to re-wet. it can be applied to both damp or dry wood. It does state this on the container.
