We will reply to your comment shortly· 05/09/2020Hello, I have a 10Y old screened-in deck. I replaced some vertical framing like pillars, pickets, and railing and indicate in the photos attached. I am planing to solid stain the vertical framing and stain the floor with a different semi-transparent color more to brown tones. The existing stain is 717 Redwook, oil based. Could you suggest the products for this project? In case vertical framing could be stripped, we may use same semi-transparent stain there. I also have screen underneath of the deck floor, will any of the product chemicals damage that? Thanks ?

We will reply to your comment shortlyHi we had rain last year when we stained our deck... would the stripper remove this mess?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes. Strip and then brighten.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHi just wondering if the deck can be stripped, brightened and stained while being warped in some areas like this? Or is there any easy way to fix it?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou can still prep and stain it. Try using some screws to tighten it down.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHi I am not sure what type of stain/paint was used 10+ years ago on this deck. Do you think the stripper will take this out?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyProbably bust use the Stripper additives as well: https://www.restore-a-deck.com/rad-stain-stripper-additives.html
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyok the gel or the other one? also can you recommend a good hand brush for semi-transparent stain?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyUse both. Any quality brush will work for applying.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHello, we used the cedar semi transparent rad stain last fall on a cedar deck/porch. I am not liking the color at all. If we use the stripper can we then stain with the rad cottage grey?
Thanks,
Linda-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes. Use both additives with the stripper and the brightener as well. https://www.restore-a-deck.com/rad-stain-stripper-additives.html

We will reply to your comment shortlyMy deck is 20 x 14 and has close to 100 spindles plus 6 steps. It is going to take me awhile to clean or strip then brighten this deck. How soon after cleaning and brightening do I have to stain?

We will reply to your comment shortlyI used the cleaner, then stripper on a 4 year old redwood deck. However, after powerwashing and then applying brightener, the wood is now dark and it either product has not taken it down to the bare wood. When attempting to repeat these steps, it has done nothing. I have had to take a belt sander to take it down to the bare wood in order to have a non splotchy stain application. Tips? Not happy with these products as I have applied exactly as per directions. Thanks!

We will reply to your comment shortlyHi, It looks correct on the lower floor. What is the concern at this point?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe coloring of the stripped portion of the deck now has the appearance of pressure treated wood. Some of pure redwood peeks through in many various spots, so the wood is not truly stripped down to bare wood. When stain is applied, it is very splotchy and everything is far worse than when I even started.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWhat type and brand of stain is on the wood now? Did you use these additives? https://www.restore-a-deck.com/rad-stain-stripper-additives.html
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI believe there was Sikkens stain on it where I had stripped. So, what you are saying is that I need to spend an additional $40 of these products to products that have not worked? Is there a money back guarantee for all of these products I have/will purchase if it still doesn't work? I am concerned for more $ and more time equity vs literally taking a belt sander and continue to strip down to bare wood like I have had to on some of the railings.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWell, that makes sense. Sikkens Cetol DEK is a polyurethane type coating that is supposed to be used on log homes. The stripper does state in the above description that is is not designed to remove these type of coatings. The additives definitely will help but you may still need to sand to get this all off.

We will reply to your comment shortlyWe just power washed our deck and bought restore-a-deck cleaner and brightener. I had intended to buy the stripper but bought the cleaner by mistake. We want to stain the deck a solid grey stain.
Do we need a stripper or will the cleaner work just as well?-
We will reply to your comment shortlyAs long as you remove all the loose and peeling stain, you should be okay.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWill this work for Flood CWF? Areas that are exposed to direct sun/rain around the edge of the porch are in bad shape. Before treating again, I want to take it down to the bare treated lumber.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThat looks very thick in spots. Use the stripper with the additives and let dwell for 30-60 minutes before pressure washing off. It should remove most but you may need to sand some to get it all off.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThis is the real deal! The decking on our porch looks brand new. I used the additives as suggested and left in on for an hour. Thank you so much!

We will reply to your comment shortlyI'm looking to paint our deck in the solid stain "coastal gray" color you have. We just had the deck power washed- does any other prep need to happen before painting with the solid stain?

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI have read not tip use a pressure washer on cedar. Can I remove it with a garden hose after and then just use the brightener?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou can use a pressure washer on cedar. Everyone does when using this stripper. A garden hose will not be enough pressure to remove.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyWill your stripper work on Olympic Max semi-transparent stain? Also our spindles look great. If we use your stripper and a power washer on the deck surface and top of the rails would we need to cover the spindles to prevent them from getting stripped as well?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, it should work well. If the old stain was the acrylic version, use these additives as well: https://www.restore-a-deck.com/rad-stain-stripper-additives.html
If it gets on the spindles, it will take off the stain.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyCan I get by without using pressure washer if I am stripping off TWP semi transparent stain? Hoping to use scrubber and garden hose.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, but it is much faster to use the pressure washer as the rinsing tool.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI have Cedar fascia, soffits, and limited amount of siding that has previously been stained and finished with Defy Extreme exterior semi-transparent cedartone wood stain finish (very disappointed in the Defy finish product). I am looking for a well rated product to strip this material and came across your product. I am considering a semi transparent cedar toned product like Valspar one coat exterior stain and sealer as the final finish product. Although your literature is geared towards decks, I assume it should work equally as well on fascias and siding. What is your recommendation for stripping, neutralizing, and refinishing my Cedar products??

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI purchased a home with a deck that needs staining. I do not know what type of stain was previously used. Do you expect that this product will remove the stain shown in the attached photos?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlySorry but no. You have a paint and a polyurethane on this deck. That cannot be removed by any stain stripper.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHow toxic are these products to nearby plants? My deck is surrounded by 2 rose bushes and more flowering plants that I do not want to kill.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThey are not toxic but you can get some burning of the leaves if you do not cover the plants.

Would it be Best To Mix The Whole 2 Lb Package At Once with Warm Water
in a 5 Gallon Container And let it sit over night to dissolve all the crystals
So there is no waste? and If you don't use a Hand Pump Sprayer
What is the Best Method to apply the Solution to the wood decking And letting it Soak 15 Minutes
Before Scrubbing with a Deck Brush This is a 16 year old Pressure Treated Deck
That Had An Oil Base Stain applied 6 years Ago And has Basically peeled off
Due to lack of deck Preparation Before Staining Except under the Railings
Thank you for any info
Best Norm-
We will reply to your comment shortlyIt will not matter if you do it the day before nor will there be any waste. Apply with a pump sprayer and then pressure wash off for best results.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHi
Do the Crystals In The Stripper And Brightener Dissolve Completely In Water?
I Have Used A CRC Cleaner That was Crystals And They Did No Completely Dissolve
And had A Hard Time applying it it did not work well at All
Does your product dissolve Completely so there is not any left over undissolved crystals?
Thanks Norm-
We will reply to your comment shortlyFor the most part, yes, but always mix in a separate 5-gallon container before transferring to a sprayer. This way it will not clog if a little bit of residue is at the bottom of the bucket.

We will reply to your comment shortlyI dont know what kind of stain there was. Some people looked at it and said, may be there was no stain, but when I tried to pressure wash, I felt that there was stain. See attached pictures. You can also see some minor damage from pressure wash on the side railings. What do you think?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThere is stain there and to remove properly, you should use the pressure washer with the stain stripper.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThanks. My concern is with pressure wash- I am a not-so-handy home owner and I feel I will damage wood by pressure washing. The label says that if you scrub and use garden hose pressure, then that may suffice. With pressure washing, there is no need to scrub. Will that work?
I used pressure washer last year and have gone close to wood in some areas- hence my other question on sanding- if I have to sand- when do I sand- before or after stripper?
Thanks very much-
We will reply to your comment shortlyDepends on what stain brand and type of stain you are trying to remove?
Sand if needed after the stripping but before the brightener.
-
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyDo I have to pressure wash after applying stripper? Can I now just scrub it with hard bristled deck cleaning brush and then just use garden hose to wash it off?
Also, does stripper and brightener have to go back to back without any delay in between?
Lastly, when do I use the sander to smoothen rough surfaces?-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes, you should pressure wash after using the stripper. Apply the brightener as soon as possible after using the stripper. No need to sand.

We will reply to your comment shortlyHello, will it strip Armstrong Clark Semi-Solid Sequoia stain? Thanks
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYes. Apply and pressure wash off.
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyHow long do RAD Stripper last once mixed?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyThe Stripper and Brightener do not have a shelf life once mixed.

We will reply to your comment shortlydo i need to strip or just clean my deck if i plan on using the same stain again?
-
We will reply to your comment shortlyClean unless the stain has worn unevenly. If so it is best to strip.

-
We will reply to your comment shortlyI am looking at stripping my rails on my deck. The deck boards are 1 year old and not stained yet
I know I need to use the stripper for the old semi trans stain but will stripper effect the deck boards?
I was looking at buying the stripper and the brightener to do my project and then stain with a semi Armstrong Clark satin
Thanks-
We will reply to your comment shortlyYou can use the stripper for the railings. For the floors, you should use the cleaner. After doing both, brighten all wood when done.

Hi,
Description of the product says "Stripper and Brightener". Do I have to buy a cleaner separately? or stripper is a cleaner too?? Please help.
If you are using the stain stripper, you do not need the cleaner.
